They employ a really cool and fascinating idea – it's electromagnetism in electric motors. Therefore they produce a magnetic field around them when electricity flows through to the coil of wire. The process of a motor is consumption: the parts get together to move, like on an engine. One important component is the so-called permanent magnet. This type of magnet always has its own magnetic field and as a result, it always attracts or repels other magnets without electricity. Generally, permanent magnets are created with strongest magnetic materials like iron, nickel and cobalt.
The rotor is another extremely vital part of the motor. To create movement, when electricity is brought to the motor, actually moving the rotor, which drives snap. That rotor will usually contain an electromagnet. An electromagnet forms when a wire coil is wound on an object such as iron. Electricity that is passed through this coil creates a magnetic field. This magnetic field in turn, interacts with the permanent magnet resulting in rotation of rotor and hence movement.
For many of the things we use on a daily basis, electric motors are key. Some example applications range from the motors which power fans, vacuum cleaners, blenders and washing machines. They also play an important part in transportation such as producing the energy that helps a car fly, plane ride or train trip. In other words, without electric motors many things that we use in our daily lives would be all different.
Of course, electric motors require strong magnets to function effectively and efficiently. For magnets, engineers have recently begun looking toward rare earth elements for new solutions. Rare earth elements, which have unique properties and are used worldwide in a wide variety of products from missiles to mobile phones, are metals found within the Earth's crust. Among these are neodymium and praseodymium; the precious metals integral for creating powerful magnets.
However for now, the good news is electric motors (and the magnets used in them) are getting better as technology improves. Designers are constantly push the limits in developing new designs and materials to help motors produce more output easier, for less! Continuous innovation- This is critical to build the more efficient and effective technologies.
