Hello, boys and girls! Today we will learn about the magnificent and very powerful - small disc magnetss! Have you heard of them? If not, don’t worry! We will take this ability to the next level, and shall discover the maximal extent that small disc magnetss are capable of great stuff step by step.
Magnets—materials that can attract iron and nickel with a special force called magnetism— Isn’t that cool? This pole has two ends, one is called North-pole another South pole. You can even see these ends yourself if you look at a magnet! North pole and South pole act different. They can come together and attract or repel depending on their arrangement. For instance if you bring two north poles together, they will repel each other. However, you can see in the video that a North pole and a South pole will be attracted if they are close. So what happens if you create a mega-magnet? This is when the true magic and power takes place!
There are tons of cool stuff steel and magnetss are used for! Medically, they are put to use. Ever heard of an MRI? MRI is basically the short form of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. A fancy device that allows doctors to peer inside your body without any cuts or surgery. Isn’t that amazing? It creates a special zone around you with an enormous magnet and takes pictures by beaming radio waves. This way the doctor can see in your body and decide if you are ok.
Particle accelerators are another example of something that uses steel and magnetss. They let scientists research the smallest things in matter such as atoms. Atoms build us, and all that's around us! Particles whizz round big circular tracks at breakneck speeds in these machines, guided by huge magnets that scientists use to control their direction. In this way, scientists are able to understand more about how everything in our universe is put together and worked, all the way from there smallest building blocks of nature up to biggest star.
Have you ever wondered about those gigantic magnets that are able to pick up enormous cars, trains and other heavy objects? Because of their magnetic fields! The space around a magnet where the power is strongest is called as magnetic field. The greater the strength of the magnet, stronger will be the magnetic field. If you put something that is made out of iron or steel, like a car (or even a train) into the middle of a magnetic field, the magnetic field grabs onto it and it can move! In this way, some trains can glide above the tracks and move at super-speed. The magnetic field raises them, allowing them to hurtle across.
Big magnets allow us to innovate and invent cool new products as well. They help in generating electricity through power plants that we require for lighting our homes and driving our devices. So that they can also be used to build more powerful electric motors to make cars go faster or to consume less energy. But that’s not all! Giant magnets can even be used to create trains that hover! Giant magnets allow a floating train to levitate off the tracks and move forward. This way, travel is more expedited and smoother for all involved.
Now you know, giant magnets here on Earth are not alone. They are also found in space! The new study describes inseviry magnetic fields that are far stronger than those found on our planet. Such magnetic fields are strongest near black holes or neutron stars, singling a closer dependence in galaxies too! They are instrumental in informing scientists how the universe functions and how various objects in space affect one another.
